28c3: What is in a name?

日曜日, 1月 22nd, 2012

Download high quality version: bit.ly Description: events.ccc.de Christoph Engemann: What is in a name? Identity-Regimes from 1500 to the 2000s Starting with the history of birth-registration an overview on the historical regimes of naming and identifying people from the 15th to the 20th century is given. the talk will show examples of the different identity media through time and their standardization with the rise of the westphalian nation state and the subsequent developments after the french revolution and during the 20th century. the goal of the talk is to show the complexity of the phenomenon of personal names and their media and the need for an informed debate on who and how naming and identification in the digital age is achieved. In July 2011 Google opened the social network named Google+, immediately spawning a fierce debate about its real-name policy barring users from opening accounts with pseudonyms. Just a few days later Facebooks Vice President Randi Zuckerberg echoed Google’s sentiment, asserting: “(…) anonymity on the Internet has to go away.” Finally in early August Germanys minister of the interior demanded an end of anonymity on the Internet. My proposed talk is not concerned with the relation of anonymity and pseudonymity and free speech, discrimination and empowerment that dominated the ‘real-name’ “nymwars” on the internet. Instead it seeks to de-familiarize the notion of the ‘real name’ by exposing central aspects of the media-history of names

Ayusa World Leaders

土曜日, 12月 31st, 2011

The AYUSA World Leaders program is a three week summer program bringing together high school students from around the world who are interested in global leadership and helping stop climate change. This year’s curriculum offers students the opportunity to study Environmental Leadership at the University of California at Berkeley. The goal of this course is to prepare students to become leaders in an increasingly inter-connected world where one country’s actions can affect the entire globe. At the conclusion of the AYUSA World Leaders program, all students will have the opportunity to showcase an environmentally-focused project of their choosing to government officials in the State Capitol.

From fine art to cartoons, the CSSSA Animation program encourages students to explore their creative potential and bring movement to their artwork through an intense and rigorous curriculum. In this video, some 2010 animation students tell us about their experience at CSSSA and department chair Lori Damiano gives us some insight on the structure of the coursework. ABOUTCSSSA: The California State Summer School for the Arts [CSSSA] is an immersive 4-week summer program for artistically gifted and talented high school students who aspire to careers in arts and entertainment. The emphasis for the junior/senior high school basketball camp is on developing moves off the dribble and being explosive. The camp lasts four days with teaching progressions for explosive moves off the dribble and finishing at the rim. Each day is two hours of intense skill development. Day one consists of stationary drills, line drills, finishers, one-foot finishers and moving drills.
